We applaud Lion Deborah Love-Peel, whom has been a lion for over 17 years, while continuing to assist a number of organizations that support Deaf and Hard of Hearing people to date. We honor her passion to create a unique scholarship opportunity for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Deborah is well aware, and understands the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing young people.
Deborah encourages Deaf and Hard of Hearing young people to reach for higher education, realizing the challenges they face especially in the reading and comprehension arena. Deaf and hard of hearing students will face unique hurdles as they attend the college, trade school, or University of their choice. Dedication and Advocacy to this Scholarship is fueled by Deborah’s personal life experiences in assisting her own daughter who is deaf, as she continues to advocate for others in the community that has sought her assistance.
This scholarship awards students extra finances to attend the college, trade school or university of their choice to assist and encourage them while in college to succeed in the goals they set for themselves. Lion Love-Peel creates partnerships with organizations to establish support processes for the students who receive these scholarships as they navigate the higher learning institutions of their choice.
Two scholarships were awarded in 2010 and two scholarships will be awarded this year. The recipients of this years scholarships will be announced later this month and the winners will be recognized at the Lions Hearing Center Annual Dinner Dance on November 5, 2011.
